Job Description
Position Summary:
The Legal Assistant will provide critical administrative and client support in Spanish and English, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations of our busy criminal law practice. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in helping individuals navigate the criminal justice system.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a primary point of contact for Spanish-speaking clients
Translate legal documents and correspondence (Spanish ↔ English)
Schedule client meetings, court dates, and attorney appointments
Maintain organized case files and update client records
Assist in drafting routine legal documents, letters, and motions
Communicate professionally with courts, prosecutors, and other agencies
Provide trial and hearing support, including preparation of exhibits and materials
Perform other administrative duties as needed
Qualifications:
Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and spoken)
Prior experience in a legal setting (criminal law experience preferred)
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working with indigent or vulnerable populations
Familiarity with criminal procedure and court filings
