$143,100.00/yr - $235,200.00/yr

About The Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Director of State and Local Government Relations to join our Public Affairs team in our Bethesda, MD office. This is a remote position eligible for residents of California or Maryland . You will advance Total Wine & More's legislative, regulatory, political and community positions and issues with state and local officials, community and civic leaders, opinion leaders, industry members and the public. You will promote our image externally, ensuring that image is positive and consistent for all audiences. You will work cooperatively with internal departments to identify issues that require government affairs solutions and create and execute an action plan to achieve our goals. You will have outstanding organizational and exemplary personal communication skills. You will demonstrate skills related to: lobbying regulated industries, the state and local legislative process, regulatory and administrative responsibilities, campaign experience, public relations and community outreach. You will report to the Senior Vice President, Government Relations & Public Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee government affairs initiatives, including direct and grassroots lobbying efforts targeting elected officials and community leaders, as well as managing legislative and regulatory issues and political engagement strategies.
  • Effectively communicate key issues, priorities, and strategic plans to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and coordinate a network of local and state public affairs consultants, including lobbyists, public relations teams, and external vendors.
  • Serve as the companys representative in industry and community organizations, associations, and public forums.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure TWM's messaging and themes are consistently and positively conveyed to all audiencesranging from the general public and community leaders to elected officials, media outlets, and industry groups.
  • Identify and pursue strategic media opportunities and community partnerships at both the local and regional levels to enhance and build the TWM brand.
  • Support internal departments in addressing their specific external affairs needs and objectives.
  • Partner across TWM departments to create favorable conditions for company growth and expansion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts, Communications, Business, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Master's Degree preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • 10+ years in public affairs or public service preferred
  • Experience working in a regulated industry
  • Build relationships with key government officials and industry stakeholders
  • Analyze and report on legislative proposals and regulatory changes
  • Develop materials for advocacy and outreach efforts
  • Strong business communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a changing, fast-paced environment
